Acts of Service Reignite our Purpose
“We need more of this in our world” … are the words I exchanged, yet the meaning behind what was relayed was far greater.
While waiting in line at Panera, I noticed a little boy become upset when he got separated from his father. His plea for the whereabouts of his father, attracted a gray-haired woman with a kindly face. "You could see the concern in her face for the boy
until she saw that the boys’ mother was nearby and so she rejoined her husband.
I was about to leave, but felt compelled to acknowledge the woman for her kindness and to share, “I acknowledge you for your kindness in looking after the boy. We need more of this in our world.”
Surprisingly I was caught off guard by the strong emotions and tears that surfaced upon my face. In that moment, I had tapped into something greater than myself. By being a witness and in a heartfelt space I had connected with another and was not alone. I was giving and in so doing, received a wellspring of love.
There is something so natural about the way we know how to care for each other. We need to acknowledge how connected we are and to act from this deeper knowing of our hearts. Acts of service actually get us out of our contracted, closed off states of mind and reunite us with our greater purpose for being here.
Our world has been crazy lately and seems to be falling apart… More instances are needed to witness and act from our hearts, to see the underpinning fabric of love and connection that is there. By opening ourselves to these moments we affirm the amazing, loving, connected people that we are. WE are okay…we just need the courage to be vulnerable and to show up.
